Hello Joe fans,
IDW is back again with another exciting adventure in Cobra Command Volume 3.
The artwork, as usual, speaks for itself. The characters are drawn to perfection . What a great read ! Again, I found myself unable to put this one down because, in this volume, you will discover the back story of Krake, including how he became Krake and how he joined Cobra. Also, this makes me feel like this story’s leading into the “Rise of Cobra” and the “Fall of the Joes,” which I feel ties into The Renegades show and the upcoming Retaliation movie. I like twist here with Cobra pretending to be the good guys, while making the Joes look like they are the bad guys. Krake has become one of my favorite characters, and I love the back story of how he became evil, leading into how he becomes The Cobra Commander.
Also included is a tale of Snake Eyes and his return to the Arashikage Clan. Along with Storm Shadow, they make plans to take down Cobra, but not before Snake Eyes pays a visit to a Hard Master prior to meeting up with Storm Shadow. I am not a huge fan of these characters; however, I know they are a mainstay in the stories. After all, what is a good Joe story without some ninja action?
Finally, IDW throws a curve ball and tosses in a story about one of the lesser known characters, Chuckles, giving a bit of a back story about how he became a Joe and how he hates his code name. You don’t get many Joe characters hating their code names. To me, Chuckles is another Magnum P.I. without the mustache and red Ferrari. It wasn’t the most interesting read of the book. But I am a fan of back stories as I like to know my characters inside and out.
In closing, I give it 3 out of 3 Yo Joes! Thank you IDW and Larry Hama! When it comes to Joe stories, and the art, you have yet to disappoint this fan boy. Look for Cobra Command Volume 3 from IDW at your local comic shops.
Yo Joe!
