Hello Joe fans, Michael Hopkins back again with another Joe re view. Today’s review is G.I. Joe Disavowed Vol. 6.
SO – I start reading this book, and all I can say is, WOW, what a cliffhanger here. Let’s start with the artwork by Tim Seeley. This guy is incredible with the pencil great details in all the characters. The attention to detail is astounding even down to the detail of shirts worn by Kamakura, which looks like a ninja on his shirt. I got a kick out of that because it’s a ninja wearing a ninja. Ironic? I know, right?
Now let’s get into the story. Let me just say that Larry Hama is one of my favorites, but after reading this story, Brandon Jerwa definitely has my vote of confidence after the mind-screw he did to me in at the end. The battle between Snake Eyes and Wraith, who was recruited by Destro to be a protector, was mind-blowing. I never thought I would see the day when Snake Eyes got his butt kicked in a fight. There’re so many aspects I can touch on in this book, but I want to save some for you to read. That said, here’s my take – this is a modern day soap opera for the Joe faithful. You got your marriages, your pregnancies, and all your favorite good guys and bad guys. You throw in Joe Colton, and you’ve got that classic Joe feel. We also see here the inter-workings of a group called the Juggles conspiring with the government to get rid of the Joes. At one point, The Juggles included General Hawk until his accident that left him in a wheelchair. It appears that the Juggles might be conspiring to work with Cobra, and they are currently keeping Serpentor in stasis. The capture of Cobra Commander by the Joes at the issue’s end left me speechless with the previously mentioned mind-screw. Without giving away spoilers, just know I was not expecting this ending.
In closing, this is a must have for any Joe fan young and old. If you love Dreadnoks, Cobra , and Joes, you will love this book as much as I did. I give this a huge 3 out of 3 Yo Joes! I cannot stress enough how good I thought this book was. Hey, IDW, gimmie more, please.
YO JOE!
